Workshop Description: 

Due to the inherent need of adolescents to push against the status quo, they are often our most challenging clients!  In this workshop you will learn fun art and play therapy interventions that you will use over and over to build relationships and engage adolescents in the therapeutic process through the power of play!

Lyla Tyler is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and also a Registered Play Therapy Supervisor. Throughout her career she has specialized in treating children, teens and families in her midtown Sacramento, California private practice.  Lyla is also a Nurtured Heart Approach® Advanced Trainer. She has specific training dealing with trauma and is trained in Experiential Play Therapy, Art Therapy, EMDR, Trauma Resiliency Model® and Theraplay®.   For over 30 years Lyla has worked in the children’s mental health field and has provided training throughout California and Internationally. Learning Objectives
After the workshop participants will be able to:

  1. List the four benefits and challenges of adolescence as described by Daniel Seigel in Brainstorm.
  2. Discuss the importance of confidentiality and demonstrate how to use your energy as a play therapist to positively recognize teenage clients and build self -esteem.
  3. Demonstrate at least 5 play therapy interventions to use as assessment tools with teen clients.
  4. Develop a safety plan to respond to suicidal ideation or self -harm that includes play therapy interventions learned in the workshop.
  5. Describe 4 play therapy techniques that can be used in clinical practice to teach coping skills and self- discovery to teen clients.

Who Should Attend:
Social Workers, Marriage, Family & Child Therapists, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, School Counselors, Psychologists, Students, and Interns.
Continuing Education:

This workshop meets the qualifications for 6 hours of continuing education credit for Psychologists, MFTs & LCSWs  and LPCC's.  The California Association for Play Therapy (CALAPT) is approved by the Association for Play Therapy to offer continuing education specific to play therapy (APT Approved Provider # 00-094). The California Association for Play Therapy is approved by the American Psychological Association (APA) to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Psychologists may receive 6 hours of continuing education credit for this workshop.The California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) now recognizes APA continuing education credit for license renewal for LCSWs and MFTs. The California Association for Play Therapy maintains responsibility for this program and its contents.  NO CREDIT FOR PARTIAL ATTENDANCE.
Cancellations and Refunds:
Requests for refunds must be made in writing to the CALAPT, P.O. Box  12404, Newport Beach, CA 92658. Requests must be postmarked two weeks prior to workshop date in order to receive refund. There is a $25.00 administrative fee for refunds. There are no price breaks for partial attendance.
